Curious...
After 4+ years, I've finally been able to upgrade my DSL away from the standard home DSL speeds of 1.5megabit DL/128kilobit UL to my our new one of 6megabit DL/608kilobit UL. Sure, around Silicon Valley, DSL is incredibly common (although there are certain pockets that can't get any sort of broadband still), it certainly isn't a nationwide thing yet.
This article shows that all modems pull in nearly 60% still. The U.S. is ranking 11th in broadband penetration.
What's curious is that there are still 14.4kilobit users. Of course, if I could check multiple boxes on some survey, I'd probably check 14.4, 144, and 6 megabit for home use. Why? Digital CDMA is 14.4 kilobit and 1xRTT is 144 kilobit. It would not surprise me if some of the 14.4kbps usage is wireless, which would seem to fall into a different category.
Just my random bablings...
