A bit surprising? Or not..

Flat panels to outpace CRTs in 2004 | CNET News.com

The part the surprises me is that it hasn't already happened. I had thought sales of laptops had outpaced that of desktops. And considering all laptops and some desktops come with LCD, it seemed a given that more LCDs were being sold. But maybe laptop sales have only outpaced desktop sales in the US or something. And, naturally, this must not also include PDA or cellphone LCD panels given cellphone sales certainly outpace anything else. I wonder where the cut-off is? A 4" LCD screen doesn't count. What about a 6" on the super small laptops (of the sort in the Vulcan PC, for instance, or DVD players) or 7" common in cars and DVD players, etc.???

I also wonder how long before the actual number of LCD panels exceeds that of CRTs in use. That certainly won't come anytime near the sales turn over....

We have something like 3-4 unused 15-17" CRT monitors. Considering we have 4 laptops (if you include the libretto) and one of our desktops uses an LCD and our DVD player has an LCD, we have more LCD here than CRT.

But do you count TVs? Probably not... ;)
