Weekend Outside of Yosemite

We left my work place at about 415p. (Hey, just over 8.5 hours of work isn't too bad, is it?) We prepared a CD full of podcasts to listen to over the weekend. By about 9pm, we were enjoying listening to them and talking about the subject matter.

We got fairly low on gas, or so I thought. By the time we hit the gas station at the turn-off towards Toulumne we had to fill up. Luckily, it was a 24 hour station because the others on the way up had been closed.

Yosemite night

By about 11pm we arrived at our campsite on the other side of Yosemite. We set up and crashed. Not long after the wind started. Well, that's an understatement. Howling gusts came down the mountains and slammed into our tent. This kept up throughout the night, preventing us from getting much needed sleep. On the bright side, the temperature wasn't too bad.

The next morning, all of 6 restless hours later, we got up to go up the power plant road for sunrise. It was rather nice here, but the wind and gusts were still in full force. We saw a few other photographers, too.

After a while there we headed down towards June Lake. We stopped for a while at one of the lakes on the loop and got some pictures. The wind was still out in a strong way coming across the lake. Off in the distance over the mountains we started to see storm clouds and some dusting of snow was being blown in.

On the way out we stopped at a great Aspen grove along a stream. Lots of fisherman and some photographers were there. In fact, all of the streams had fisherman around them -- as well as photographers.

Following this we headed back to camp for some lunch and rest. What we ended up doing, though, was eating lunch and heading back out as it looked like it was really snowing up at the higher elevations. So, we headed up in the direction of Yosemite and got off on a dirt road towards a lake.

On the way back from this the check engine light went on! What is it with us and cars? Nothing appeared to be wrong after checking the fluids and all the normal stuff. We're hoping it was just a hiccup due to rough roads and being above ten thousand feet.

I ended up napping for a couple of hours. Laurie only napped for an hour before heading out to walk along the stream near camp and grab some more aspen shots. I followed her out shortly afterwords. We spent some time shooting while the sun was going down.

We headed back and had dinner. The temperature continued to drop the whole time, but we'd gotten a decent fire going to help keep us warm. The wine helper with that, too. ;)

We then retired to the tent to go through pictures. We were able to look at them, at least, before we ran out of batteries on our laptops. We didn't dip into any reserves. Instead, we got all bundled up and started to listen to podcasts on my phone.

I didn't sleep very well as the temperature was much lower than the night before. Regardless, we got up before 6am and headed straight home. We had planned on hitting up Yosemite Valley, but we had decided to just run home due to potential car troubles.
