Finished Another Game

image For the second time in years, we finished playing a video game. This particular game was Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a PS3 only game.  The story was good enough that my wife followed along, which is why I say we played it -- she helped with ideas in some of the harder puzzles.

It isn't exactly the type of game I like to play. It was mostly a first person shooter platform puzzle type game. However, it had a number of nice features that helped reduce the platform puzzle frustration.

First, if you died it would bring you back surprisingly close to where you died. This usually meant losing less than a minute of playing time. This is exceptionally important when your gaming time is your relaxing time and you only have a short amount of time in a given day to play, if at all.  You really want to make progress and if you go in for half an hour and die after 25 minutes losing all of your progress you'll probably be discouraged to the point of not playing.

Second, if it thought you were having trouble with a puzzle or didn't know where to go next, a pointer for a hint would come up. The hints where light. In fact, they would only really point you to your next destination. However, they would only come up when you either died a couple of times in the same spot or didn't make any progress for a while.

These two items made most of the game enjoyable. There were only a couple of spots where the frustration level was getting beyond my acceptance, but I ultimately made it through those.

image image It's been nice to be able to have some time to play video games again. The first one I finished, once out here, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom. (I'll have more to say about that game in another post.) It had been even longer since I'd finished an RPG, although the last one I finished was also a co-op one with my wife.

So, I've returned to playing Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. My last save in the game was from May of 2006. I decided to start over, especially since it had only recorded about 6 hours of game time. We'll see if I can actually finish the main story line for it or not. (And no, it's not the new version with all of the expansions...) ;)
