Crazy Weather: Record High and Record Low
Yesterday was a cool day. The temperature was probably in the high 40s or low 50s. Then the sun went down. So, naturally, the temperature rose. We saw it hit 63F, but at the local measurement place it hit 64F, a record high for this time in November. The temperature stayed high through most of the night. This set the high for today as 64F, as well, even though most of the day the temperature has been dropping. Our reading shows 44F for mid-afternoon – about 6 degrees cooler than it was in mid-morning. And it’s been sunny.
Crazy!
Out here, I’ve not seen such dramatic examples of warm and cold fronts affecting the temperatures so quickly that the time of day and the sun level have less effect on the temperature than the front. It’s pretty neat!
The average temperature for this time of year is a high of 42 and a low of 24. The record was set yesterday for a high of 64 (it also hit 64 two years ago today, so no record for today) and a low of 3F in 1996.
It’s supposed to drop to 14F on Thursday. If we see that temperature, that will be 3 degrees lower than the record low set in 1997 of 17F. The low forecast for Friday is also a degree lower than the record, also set two years ago when a high was set in the same week.
Double Crazy!
That means there is a possibility of a record low and a record high in the same week. Which also appears to have happened two years ago, during this same week.
