Fun Record Weather Update
Well, after having record high weather on Sunday, we’ve now definitively had record low temperature last night. Our own thermometers showed a low of 9F, but the weather page shows a record low of 7F for this time of year. With a forecast of 9F and a previous low of 16F for this day in the past, that’s pretty crazy.
For the record, it’s pretty chilly out regardless of what the numbers say. We still haven’t turned the furnace on, but our wood stove is certainly getting more use. :)
More Record Cold Weather Coming
Tonight is forecast to be just as cold – which would set another record. Additionally, the night before last was also a record. The previous record lows for this time of year were set in 1996.
(To be fair, these aren’t “all-time” lows or highs, they are merely “this date in history” lows and the site disclaims that they aren’t “official” numbers. There are no official numbers for some areas, though, so this is as good as it gets.)
Cold Enough To Make Snow
Cold weather isn’t all bad. In fact, chopping wood yesterday was pleasant as I didn’t overheat and I didn’t have to worry about bugs. The temperature never went above freezing.
Cranmore is now making snow and they have a projected opening date. December 6th! We ordered our season passes last week and are anxiously awaiting ski season.
Making Snow?
Although many ski areas on the west coast also make snow, especially for the lower lifts, I hadn’t realized how much it was relied on for the snow season here. Apparently, many of the areas can open limited runs with just manmade snow. That seems a bit odd, but whatever works.
