A Passing of a Generation
As has been talked about around the net, a number of serial movies and TV shows are now done and gone for good (well, you never know...) that we all grew up with. I'm referring to the various ones like Star Trek and Star Wars.
At least the movies did a good job of closing out the characters.
The news is sad. It's a reminder that no particular configuration of atoms will last forever.

Running Scripts Without Type Their Extension on Windows
This is probably fairly trivial for some and for others it may be completely new. I had a feeling it existed, but I wasn't completely sure as I get my Linux, Windows, Cygwin, and Unix Utils all confused.
It's nice that you can run executables and batch files from the command prompt without typing their extension. However, when it comes to a Perl (.pl) file or maybe a PHP (.php) file, you'll have to type the extension.
Unless you change your PATHEXT environment variable.
For a one time change, just do this:
set pathext=%pathext%;.ext
This adds ".ext" to the search extensions for running executables.
To make the change permanent, change it on the environment variable settings on the advanced tab of your "My Computer" properties page.
I added the .pl extension using the following command:
set pathext=%pathext%;.pl
This will continue to work for that one command prompt session.
I hope this helps at least one person...

PSP Games From MemoryStick
Actually, it's more like PSP Game (singular) From MemoryStick. Or even better yet, Your Own PSP Game That Was Just On A Cheap UMD Disc Now Runs From Your Overpriced MemoryStick.
It's really too bad that the PSP uses MemorySticks. I mean, I know it's Sony and they want to help push their forms and all that. What, with a 2GB MemoryStick being $200-$300 and a UMD disc weighing in at 1.8GB and PSP games costing $40-60 it just doesn't seem like it's worthwhile. I mean, if you want to carry all of your games around on a pack of MemorySticks. If you're determined to get all of the games for free, you can always carry a laptop around to swap around the games before you want to play them. It kind of makes it all less portable, though.
Personall, though, I think it's all about the emulators.

WalkIn Close... er... Comic Book?
These WalkIn Comix allow you to walk through an entire graphic novel. And it's not just any graphic novel. It's their graphic novel.
In a world where we try to make everything smaller and more portable this is definitely novel!

SPAM is good for you?
I missed this at some tech site because they had a picture of a can of spam and they were talking about health, so I just sort of assumed it was actually about eating low fat spam or something. Silly me. This actually makes sense. It's the basis behind millions of dollars of self help and weight loss audio tapes that you're supposed to listen to daily. This stuff pours salt on our guilt nerves -- and they really don't like salt.
People who were spammed about healthy eating and keeping active, tended to exercise and lose weight, according to the researchers at the University of Alberta.
