No iTunes With $100 iPhone Credit?! Updated.
Ugh. That's the only thing I had my eyes on. A few people at work said the same thing. I mean, I know why. It's pretty clear that songs are low to no margin so Apple can sell iPods (and iPhones). But still... Now I have to decide what stuff to buy. I didn't want more stuff. Regardless, make sure you get your credit before November 30th.
*sigh*
And I hope that SMS with the code is free, too. (Yes, it is free. Just got it. Nice touch.) The SMS came in within about 5 seconds of me requesting it. Not bad; that's how it should be. Of course, now I'm on a page with a couple of bar coded numbers and no printer available. Hrm. I wonder if the camera is good enough? (Seems good enough if I hold it far enough away to get the whole screen then zoom.)
So, what can one get with $100 off at Apple?
- iPod Shuffle - $21 credit left for tax
- iPod nano 4GB - $49 plus tax
- Apple TV 40GB - $199 plus tax (alright, you know this)
- Refurbished Apple TV 40GB- $149 -- Nice, but that's the 40GB model
- Clearance iPhone 4GB - $199 -- Not too bad, but ... I have an 8GB already
- Refurbished iPhone 8GB - $249 -- Hmm... don't forget the $100 was spent spending $599 on one
- Refurbished 2nd Gen Nano 4GB - $29
- All iPhone accessories are under $99, except for the headsets (Bang and Olufsen for $249...)
- Airport Extreme - $79
Of all of those, a nano gift or Apple TV seem to be the most interesting. The Apple TV only does 1280x720, though, and our TVs are 1920x1080, and we like full 1080p content.
However, only a couple of items will be "free" with the rebate. Most stuff will require giving up even more dough. Unless, of course, that stuff is just accessories. I've already got BT headphones (no A2DP, anyway), BT headset, and a case. And I can shave my own headphone plugs, so I don't need an adapter.
Hmm. At least it doesn't expire. Maybe something good will come...
UPDATE: So, apparently the fine print is misleading, but many others interpreted it the way I did. So, you can't buy an Apple Gift Card and you can't buy an iTunes Store Gift Certificate. Neither of those is an iTunes Gift Card, though. So, I'm going to be buying four of the $25 Product RED iTunes Gift Cards. That way, ten bucks will go to something good at no cost to me and I can get a hundred songs or something, if the WiFi Store ever ships for the iPhone.

Delayed Features
It looks like today was the day for the ringtone feature to become enabled. It didn't happen late last night when I plugged my iPhone in. What's with that, anyway? Why bother putting a feature in that's not going to be activated right away?
This isn't the first time Apple has done it, either. They had a feature become available on the iPhone itself. Apparently it was even timed to become enabled during a Jobs speech, too.
It's all nifty, but why bother? It can't be for testing purposes, because the code has shipped. It could be for the server side of things, but this case the wouldn't seem true since it's basically just a client-side feature that has just needed billing support.
Strange... Well, now off to see how good their editor is. ;)
